David “Dave” Anderson, 90, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, at Homestead in Algona. He had been residing there with his wife, Pat, since November 2023. Prior to their move to Homestead, they lived on their acreage in rural Burt for 53 years.

Tom Erpelding, age 63 of Burt, passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, in his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish - St. Cecelia in Algona. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 5, from 4-7 p.m. at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Lentz Funeral Home of Algona is assisting the family.

Funeral Service will be at the Swea City Community Church in Swea City at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, with Pastor Todd Hartsock officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Beverly will be laid to rest at Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City.

Beverly Rae (Pope) Gamble, 82, of Swea City, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Aug. 25, 2024.

Ron was born to Ervin and Helen Gerber on March 14, 1936 in Algona and grew up on the family farm just southwest of Algona. After high school graduation, Ron enlisted in the Navy and spent most of his service at Cecil Field Naval Airport in Jacksonville, Fla.

Bruce A. Schutjer, 70, of rural Woden, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, from injuries sustained in a UTV accident near his farm.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 31 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woden, with Pastor John Heille officiating. Burial was at Bingham Township Cemetery south of Woden.

A Funeral Mass for Dan Hanig, of Des Moines formerly of Wesley, was held at 10:30 a.m.  on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Burial was held after the mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley.

Vesta Marie Berglund was born in a rural farmhouse near Slayton, Minn., the first of three children to Arthur and Melba Carney on Dec. 18, 1935. Vesta grew up on her parents’ family farm north of Lake Wilson, Minn. She attended school in Lake Wilson and was baptized at Lake Wilson First Methodist Church.

Rose June Olson, 96, of Humboldt, formerly of Bode, passed away on Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, 2024, in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

Steven Newbrough passed away peacefully at his home on August 7, 2024, surrounded by his family after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Son of Fritz and Deke Newbrough of Lake City. Steve was 71 years old.

A funeral service for Deona Simpson, 93, of Algona, was  held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Algona. Burial followed at Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Visitation was  one hour prior to the funeral service, at First United Methodist Church in Algona.

Carol Hagg, 83 of Algona, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Carol’s family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at Water’s Edge Nature Center at Smith Lake in Algona on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 12 to 3 p.m. There will be a service officiated by Rev. A funeral service for Ted Abbas, of Bancroft, will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Ramsey Reformed Church in rural Titonka. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted.
