Veronica “Connie” Parsons, age 95 of Algona, passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at the Algona Manor. A Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22 at the First Congregational Church in Algona. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.

Doug Marlow, age 72 of Burt, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at his home. Memorial Service was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23 at Lentz Funeral Home in Burt. Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22 at Lentz Funeral Home in Burt. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Burt.

December 23, 1928 - December 11, 2023

On Dec. 11, 2023, at the age of 94, Verona A. Canaday earned her angel wings while residing at Algona Manor Care Center. A Memorial Service for Verona Canaday was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church in Algona.

Burial will be held at a later date in West Union Cemetery in West Union. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

June 25, 1941 - December 15, 2023

Catherine Mary Heinen, 82, of Des Moines, died from dementia at Valley View Village. She was born on June 25, 1941. She was the 4th of 16 children.

Cathy is survived by her children, Sonya, Shawn, Tina, and LeiLani; grandchildren, Tanner, Tucker, Brooke, Matthew and Jacob; and great-grandchildren, Hazel, Titus, Kai, Layla, Grayson, Willow and Emerson.

June 22, 1964 - December 5, 2023

Janet Sue Harper (Rich), age 59, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, after a battle with cancer. She passed peacefully with family at her side.

Janet was the eighth of eleven children born to Tom and Arliss Rich of Algona. The Rich home was always full of love and excitement.

July 4, 1940 - December 2, 2023

Funeral service for June D. Bierstedt will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Thomas Marth officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church only.

June will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville.

Renee Ann Young was born in Algona on July 15, 1950. She graduated from Algona High School in 1968. Renee married Bill Roeber on Aug. 9, 1975. They lived in Whittemore. Bill died in 1982, and Renee raised their three daughters by herself. Renee married Ron Rochleau on Nov. 22, 1999. They moved to Algona in 2015. Renee died in Mason City on Dec. 9, 2023.

July 10, 1938 - December 2, 2023

Emogene Edna Batt, 85, of Cedar Falls, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023.

She was born in West Bend on July 10, 1938, the daughter of the late George and Sophia (Harms) Wichtendahl. Emogene attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Whittemore before graduating from Whittemore High School in 1957.

A funeral service for Jim was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Burial was held in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation began at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and continued until the time of service at the church.

Marlys Joan Bruns, 89, of Titonka died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023, at the Titonka Care Center following a brief illness. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in rural Titonka. Burial was held in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation began at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and continued until the time of service at the church.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church. Burial will be held in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Whittemore. Visitation was held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona.

A Funeral Mass for Merlin Studer, 88, of Wesley was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Visitation was 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Burial was held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley. Military rites were conducted by Andrew Post #428.

September 30, 1938 - November 15, 2023

Wayne William Schultz, aged 85, departed unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 15, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane and their two adored daughters, Julie (Michael) Erickson and Kimberly (Darin) Haack. Wayne’s grandchildren, Elizabeth and Devin Erickson, and Emily and Genevieve Haack, will forever cherish the warmth and kindness of their grandfather.
