Funeral Mass for Leroy “Jr.” H. Thilges, 81, of Algona, will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in St. Joseph. A Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona with a rosary to be recited by the Knights of Columbus starting at 6:45 p.m.

A funeral service for Emmaline May “Emmy” Sewick, 90, of Algona, was held Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Algona.

Emmaline May “Emmy” Sewick was born May 9, 1933, in Whittemore, daughter of Werner H. and Emma A. (Ostwald) Gade. She grew up in West Bend graduating from West Bend High School. Emmy was united in marriage to Ray Sewick on Nov. 14, 1954, in West Bend.

Eileen Elizabeth O’Brien, daughter of Frances (Hurley) and Edmund O’Brien, was born on Nov. 19, 1944, in Whittemore and died on Jan. 1, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wis. Beloved by all who were blessed to know her, Eileen was a pillar of her family, her community, and her church. Eileen led by example, demonstrating an enormous heart, humility, and service in every aspect of her life as a faithful steward of God’s grace.

 Kim Marie Wegener was born June 22, 1966, in Emmetsburg, the daughter of Dale and Lois (Naugle) Wegener. She was baptized at the Congregational Church and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. She graduated in 1984 from Emmetsburg High School. She continued her education at Iowa Lakes Community College, graduating with a journalism degree.

Sister Jeanette McCarthy, 85, died on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Sisters Presentation in Dubuque. A funeral Mass will be held at the Sisters of the Presentation Community on Monday, April 15 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. There will be a luncheon followed by burial. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sisters of the Presentation, 2360 Carter Road, Dubuque, IA 52001.

A funeral service for John Berninghaus, 82, of Algona, was held 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. Visitation took place one hour prior to the service at the church. The committal service took place at East Lawn Cemetery in Algona following the funeral service. Family and friends were welcome to gather for lunch and fellowship at St. Cecelia Presentation Center after the burial.

Karen M. “Kay” Talbot died Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 88. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Church in Algona. Lisa Uyder, 59, of Novato, Calif., passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from complications of a hiatal hernia. Lisa was born on April 20, 1964, to Dwight and Karen Kirchner, in Wayne, Neb.

After Lisa graduated high school, she went on to enter the Army, where she served our country from 1983 to 1986. After completing her service, she started her career in insurance and Hospice care.

A graveside service for Brian Munyer, 71, of Ledyard, will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Bancroft. Brian died Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Titonka Care Center.

Brian Lee Munyer was born Dec. 6, 1952, in Blue Earth, Minn.; son of Fred and Eleanor (Sanders) Munyer. He grew up in Ledyard and graduated from Ledyard High School in 1971.   Brian retired from working in 2020.

Shirley Schmitt, age 65 of Algona, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral service was 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona. Visitation was 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.

Rodney A. Schmidt, 74, of Burt, died Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society, Algona.

His family will greet friends on Saturday, March 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Water’s Edge Nature Center, Algona. Private family graveside services with military honors conducted will be held at a later date at Fenton Township Cemetery, rural Lone Rock.
