Euchre results

The Euchre results for Tuesday, April 15 at Pep’s are:

First place - Charlie Scobba and Bob Haag with 65.

Second place and Third place tie between Charlie Kollasch/Jennifer Reding and Wayne Patterson/George Bierstedt with 57.

Most loners - Charlie Scobba and Eddie Rahe with 4.

The door prize went to Dean Frideres and Jennifer Hackbarth.

Night of Academic Excellence

This year, the Night of Academic Excellence was held on March 25. The Academic Night of Excellence recognizes freshmen and sophomores with a 3.7 GPA and juniors and seniors with a 3.5 GPA.

Against All Odds 2025

Superstars is an event that has been going on at AHS since 1985. Superstars this year was held on Wednesday, March 26. The theme this year was Against All Odds, an underdog theme.

Planters were rolling across much of the State before being slowed by precipitation. Iowa farmers averaged 5.5 suitable for fieldwork for the week ending April 20, 2025, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. In addition to planting corn, soybeans and oats, fieldwork included tiling, building waterways and spraying when winds allowed.

March chicken and egg production

March Egg Production Down 7 Percent

United States egg production totaled 8.63 billion during March 2025, down 7 percent from last year. Production included 7.35 billion table eggs and 1.28 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.18 billion were broiler-type and 104 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during March 2025 totaled 351 million, down 8 percent from last year. March egg production per 100 layers was 2,458 eggs, up slightly from March 2024.

Pipeline meeting May 1 in Titonka

Farmers and landowners in Hancock, Kossuth and 56 other Iowa counties are affected by a proposed liquified carbon dioxide pipeline, especially by the question of whether eminent domain should be used by the pipeline companies to acquire easements on land.

Accura HealthCare of Bancroft commited to quality

Accura HealthCare of Bancroft was among 38 Iowa long-term care facilities that were honored at a national awards ceremony for their commitment to quality care. The facilities received 2024 National Quality Awards from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) and were recognized during AHCA/NCAL’s Quality Summit on April 7 in Atlanta.

Meeting to discuss the energy future of Algona

Algona Municipal Utilities and Iowa State University host a community engagement

ALGONA—Continuing its commitment to transparency and collaborative decisionmaking, Algona Municipal Utilities (AMU) proudly announces a community engagement meeting in partnership with the Iowa State University Master of Community and Regional Planning Studio. The meeting is scheduled for May 1 at Algona City Hall and promises a dynamic forum to discuss future energy generation in Algona.

Dementia Forum

The Kossuth County Dementia Care Board is sponsoring an educational forum at the Algona Senior Center, (1306 N Main St) on Monday, April 28. There will be a free meal at 5:15 p.m. with speakers to begin at 6 p.m.

Weiland selected for President’s Leadership Class

 

First-year student Jenna Weiland of Wesley is nearing completion of the 2024-25 President’s Leadership Class at Iowa State University.

Weiland majors in finance and is a graduate of Algona High School.

Eleanor Faith Jenson

Emilie and Scott Jenson of Algona announce the birth of their daughter Eleanor on April 15, 2025 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.

She weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 21.5 inches long.

Eleanor joins sisters Hannah and Avery.
