Funeral services for Patricia Behnkendorf will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona with Rev. Briton Nelson presiding. Burial will be in the Lu Verne Township Cemetery in Lu Verne. Visitation will be held from 9-11  a.m. on Thursday morning at the church.

Patricia Kay Behnkendorf was born July 26, 1950, in Fort Dodge the daughter of Leon and Mildred (Prendergast) Fiderlick. She grew up on a farm near Callender and was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Callender. Pat graduated from the Prairie Community High School in Gowrie in 1968. She attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge and then went on to attend Iowa State University. After her schooling Pat began working at Fort Dodge Laboratories.

On Dec. 18, 1971, Pat was united in marriage to Robert Behnkendorf at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Callendar. They moved a couple of times with Bob’s job after their marriage before settling in Algona in April of 1973. Pat was a homemaker, loving spouse and devoted stay at home mom, proud grandma and special friend. She was also an Avon and Mary Kay consultant, seamstress for the Algona Manor and a local election official. Pat herself was a past 4-H member in Webster County and she enjoyed being a 4-H leader for her boys and the Cresco Cavaliers in Algona. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran where she played in the Church Bell Choir.

Pat loved doing crafts, macramé, cross stitch and quilting. She enjoyed playing cards (even if sometimes the rules were made up) cribbage, jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku. Occasional trips to area casinos provided much fun and a little bit of yelling at the machines. She often watched football and basketball, always cheering on the local teams, with a little yelling at the tv.

Pat died Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona at the age of 73.

She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Behnkendorf of Algona; sons, Alan and wife, Amy of Algona; Curtis and wife, Tyra of Grimes; grandchildren, Gage, Chase and Emma Behnkendorf; brother, Jim of Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Jim (Margaret) Behnkendorf; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Walker and several nieces, nephew and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother and great friend, Becky Fiderlick; sister, Sharon; brothers-in-law, Don Walker and Dennis Behnkendorf.

Memorials can be made in Pat’s name to Hospice of the Heartland or Kossuth County Cancer Support Foundation.
