Kossuth County fortunate in near miss
Jerry Helmers of Algona took the above photo of a tornado approximately six miles south of Algona. It was taken at 6:10 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. While some damage to farm buildings was reported, most of the damage was downed trees and power lines. As of Tuesday, July 22, no injuries had been reported due to the storm.

Algona exceeds rehab goal
ALGONA - The city of Algona received a $344,500 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in March 2006 for use in assisting 10 income-eligible residents in a designated area of Algona to renovate and rehabilitate their home. The area was located just south and west of downtown.
