Pauline (Paula) Milby Medin died on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake at the age of 100.
She was born March 6, 1917, in Buffalo, Ky., to Guy Carl and Edith (Morrison) Milby. She graduated from Buffalo High School and attended Iowa State College where her brother Ted taught, she majored in home economics, and she met her life partner Kenneth Medin at the Farm House Fraternity. Paula and Ken were married Sept. 1, 1937, in Buffalo and lived in various towns in Iowa where Ken worked in the dairy industry (Estherville, Algona, Whittemore, Graettinger, Klemme) and in Minnesota, finally settling again in Algona.
Besides raising three children, Paula worked in various positions, primarily as a bookkeeper, including at Hutzell’s in Algona from 1955 to 1961. Her last position before retirement was at St. Joseph Plumbing and Heating in St. Joseph, Minn. In her earlier years she enjoyed playing bridge. She loved walking and could outpace us all. She was a master seamstress, quilt maker and cookie baker. Besides sewing, her other favorite hobby was reading. She was always active in church, including counseling youth groups, singing in choir, and participating in the Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service as an officer, the First Baptist Church Quilters, and the Prayer Group that met at her home.
Survivors include daughter, Sandra Kay and husband, Robert Rooney of Sherwood, Ark.; Rosemary and husband, Dale Moeykens of Farmingdale, Maine, and son, Douglas Medin and wife, Linda Powers of Evanston, Ill., as well as seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
