The October 6, 1953 headlines in the Kossuth County Advance was in all caps and read “WOMAN IS CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR.” Two days later in the town’s other newspaper on page 1 of the Algona Upper Des Moines Mrs. Clapsaddle is quoted as saying:
