March 16, 1938 - June 6, 2023

A Funeral Mass was celebrated for Marvin Tigges of Algona, formerly of Bancroft, on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Divine Mercy Parish – St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, with Father Matthew Solyntjes, Father John Thomas and Deacon William Black officiating. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in Algona.

Marvin Fredrick Tigges, the son of Fred and Mary (Droessler) Tigges was born on March 16, 1938, on the family farm south of Bancroft. He graduated from St. John High School in Bancroft in 1956, and served in the Army National Guard Reserves from 1959 to 1965.

On Aug. 23, 1960, Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Arndorfer at St. Benedict Catholic Church in St. Benedict. They lived on the Tigges family farm until they moved to Algona in 2007, and for several years spent the winters in Mesa, Ariz. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and later St. Cecelia Catholic Church.

In addition to milking cows, raising livestock and farming land, Marv was very mechanical and worked at Vaske Welding for many years. Marv and Mary were lifelong dance partners from square dancing to jitterbug. He enjoyed volunteering for his church and community, gardening, card and board games and spending time with family and attending their activities. He could fix nearly everything (and always had a pliers in his pocket), enjoyed a good laugh, a hearty meal, and made friends everywhere he went.

Marvin Tigges passed away on Tuesday, June 6 at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona. He was 85.

He is survived by his wife Mary; their children, Diane (Paul) Tapp of Spokane, Wash.; Mike (Julie) Tigges of Clive, Gary (Cyrus Hadjesmaili) Tigges of Dallas, Texas; Rhonda Baker of Grimes, Laura Tigges of Chicago, Ill.; and Bruce (Angie) Tigges of Phoenix, Ariz.; his grandchildren Lindsey, Abby, Kelsey, Michael, Bryan, Allison, Nicole, Tara, Blake, Tate and Peyton; and his great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Vienna, Geneva, Lewis, Vaila, Loralei, Nellie, Henry and Stratton.
