A funeral service for Lorraine Berg will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Algona with Pastor Russ Jacobsen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A committal service will be held at Swea Township Cemetery, rural Swea City.

Lorraine Marie was born March 22, 1929, in Princeton, Minn. to Herbert Sr. and Lula (Lander) Adams. She graduated from Algona High School in 1947 in Algona.

Lorraine and Fred Schoby Jr. were united in marriage. They had nine children: James, Bill, Steven, David, Fred III, Diane, Rebecca, Randi and Elizabeth. Lorraine and Fred later divorced.

Lorraine worked in sales and was the apparel and soft lines manager at the Algona K-Mart.

Oct. 9, 1971, Lorraine and her beloved, Earl Berg, were married and lived in Newton, Kan. for many years. Earl had four children, Larry, Ed, Eric and Penny, from a previous marriage.

Lorraine’s hobbies included beading, quilting, dancing and QVC shopping. She loved her children, flowers and chocolate. Lorraine was active in the ladies VFW Auxiliary in both Kansas and Iowa. She was very active in her home VFW Auxiliary for 70 years and was a life member. She held many offices and was the National Community Service Chairman of the Big Ten for one year. In Kansas Lorraine was very involved in ABWA (America Business Women’s Association.) She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Algona.

Lorraine died May 4 at West Bend Health and Rehabilitation, West Bend. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl Berg; two sons, Bill Schoby and Dave Schoby; two brothers, Herb Adams Jr. and Wally Adams; two grandsons, Shane Schoby and Larry Flores; two sons-in-law, Jerry Hinzman and Bret O’Dell; and daughter-in-law Hon Schoby.

She is survived by her children: James (Linda) Schoby, Algona, Diane Hinzman, Grand Falls, Mont., (Bev) Schoby, Mason City, Rebecca Schoby, Denver, Colo., Randi O’Dell, Peabody, Kan.,  Steven Schoby, Clarksville, Tenn., Fred (Mary) Schoby, Great Falls, Mont., and Elizabeth (Lanny) Jones, Osceola; 39 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Lila Duncan, Algona and sister-in-law Avis Adams, Fredrick, Ariz.
