Edna Mae (Metz) Foth was born on March 27, 1929, to Richard and Johanna (Beck) Metz on a farm near Ringsted. She was the last of five children, attended country grade school and graduated from Ringsted High School in 1946. Edna was a country farm girl and was very proud of her Danish heritage.
In 1947, Edna met the love of her life, Francis Foth, during a dance at the Bancroft Ballroom. From that day forward, they knew they would be together forever and so they were joined in marriage on June 5, 1948, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft and to this beautiful union they were blessed with seven children. They lived their entire fifty-two years of marriage on the Foth family farm near Bancroft until Francis passed away in 2000. In 2001, Edna moved into the Bancroft Apartments until 2019, when she moved to Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Algona and then in 2023, she moved into Accura Healthcare of Bancroft.
Edna was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and even a great-great-grandmother. She loved attending her children and grandchildren’s school activities, especially watching her great-grandchildren play baseball. Edna served as the president of St. John’s Atlar Society, the Catholic Daughters of America and the St. John’s High School band organization. She was also a proud and active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft.
Edna so loved the farm where they lived and raised their family. As the years passed, their farm home was the gathering place for all the family to make many beautiful memories. Edna’s greatest joy and what she cherished the most in life was her family, spending time with them and teaching them all aspects of life. She taught them the value of family, the importance of hard work and the meaning of unconditional love. She loved for them to stay for a few days, play games, pick apples and ride on the tractor with grandpa. While baking countless apple pies, cinnamon rolls and Danish goodies, she so enjoyed listening to her country music and the Big Band Era.
Edna’s never-ending kindness showed in every word she spoke to everyone she knew and even to those she only met briefly. Edna always stressed to her family to remain humble and kind, be truthful and to never take your blessings for granted. She reminded her family to always love God and each other with all their heart and soul and to never cease praying. She was given a very special gift from God and that was her kindness to all. To her family, SHE was their special gift from God.
Shortly after celebrating her 96th birthday, Edna left her earthly life surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 8 at Accura Healthcare in Bancroft to fulfill her eternal life in Heaven with her Heavenly Father and those she loved so dearly whom have passed before her.
Edna is survived by her seven children; David (Mary) Foth of Algona, Barbara (Bruce) Johnson of Centennial, Colo., Bill (Ruth) Foth of Gilbert, Ariz., Patricia (Andy) Kuper of Algona, Joe (Ginny) Foth of Algona, Mary (Jay) Richter of Bancroft and Steve (Nicky) Foth of Blue Earth, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
