A funeral Mass for Earl “Peanuts” Ludwig, 83, of Algona will be held Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona with a Knights of Columbus Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and directed to the family,  

Earl H. “Peanuts” Ludwig was born June 17, 1939, in Whittemore, son of Paul and Agatha (Wolfe) Ludwig. He grew up in Whittemore, attended country school and graduated from Presentation Academy in 1957. He worked at Hub Clothing Store for a few years prior to marriage.

Peanuts married Carole Hurn on Feb. 3, 1962, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. He worked at the Plantation Ballroom for many years and then for Farm Bureau from 1973 until his retirement in 1993.

Peanuts enjoyed fishing in Canada, playing cards, dancing and horseback riding. In later years he also enjoyed playing cribbage at Cenex with his buddies. He loved to cook and barbeque, doing it often for the Pork Producers.

Earl Ludwig died Thursday, Dec. 22 at the West Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 83.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carole Ludwig of Algona; three children, Barb (John) Jeppesen of Omaha, Neb., Frank (Mary) Ludwig of Ellsinore, Mo., and Mike (Amy) Ludwig of Rogers, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sisters, Bonnie (Pete) Budgen of Encounter Bay, South Australia, Sherry (Don) Prenger of Dakota City, Neb., David (Ruth) Ludwig of Algona and Sheila (Mike) Skilling of North Mankato, Minn.; a sister-in-law Lynne Ludwig of Ipswich, Australia and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Daniel Ludwig.
