Women Networking Together event will be held on Monday, April 1 from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Columbia Events Center. The event will include dinner, guest speakers, professional comedian entertainment and door prizes. This year’s theme is Any Fool Knows Women Get Things Done.

Graduation is on the horizon, but before you get that diploma, make sure you do your senior exit presentation. Senior exit presentations took place on Tuesday, March 26. Practice presentations have been done this past week in advisory. Seniors can either share their information through a slideshow or just share the information with an outline.

Acelyn Thilges

Jordan Smith and Spencer Thilges of Algona announce the birth of their daughter, Acelyn Thilges, on March 19, 2024, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. She weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Bobbie and Kirt Kelsey of Lake Park. Paternal grandparents are Jeanne Davis of Pella and Doug Thilges of Algona.

5 ways to show seniors they’re appreciated

Senior citizens account for a significant percentage of the overall population. Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau released in 2020 indicate the nation’s 65-and-older population had grown by more than one-third over the preceding decade. By 2050, the number of senior citizens is expected to be close to 90 million. As of 2021, Statistics Canada reported there were roughly 7.1 million persons age 65 and older living in Canada.

New society based in Algona to support local artists

ALGONA—The National Society of Arts and Letters (NSAL ) was organized exactly 80 years ago this year. Its primary goal was to provide scholarships for young artists in the fields of instrumental music, drama, dance, visual arts, and musical theatre. They support 1,500 artists and award $140,000 annually. NSAL alumni are some of the most honored contributors to the arts.

ALGONA—The full service station located at 902 N. Main Street in Algona has a new owner. Ed Green of Algona opened Ed’s Service Station at the beginning of 2024 in the same location held by Buscher’s Service Center for more than 30 years.

Morey selected PS-8 principal

WEST BEND—Tiffany Morey has been named the new preschool through 8th grade building principal in the West Bend-Mallard Community School District. The principal announcement was made at a special school board of directors’ meeting held on Monday, March 11 in West Bend.

The principal position became open when the current principal Paul Peppmeier accepted the superintendent’s position at West Bend-Mallard Schools.

Loebach memorial scholarships established at ILCC

Iowa Lakes Community College announces the establishment of the Joe and Ruth Ann Loebach Wind Energy Scholarship, a newly endowed scholarship by the Loebach family, as a testament to Joe and Ruth Ann’s forward-thinking approach to sustainability.

Preparing the Hearts of the Next Generation
