Grief support group begins October 5

ALGONA—Hospice of the Heartland is now offering in-person and virtual grief support groups for those struggling with the loss of a loved one. Beginning October 5, the grief support groups will meet twice per month.

Do you feel that chill in the air? Summer will soon be a distant memory as fall approaches. Everyone seems to be getting hungry for fall favorites, like baked acorn squash and chili with garden tomatoes. Apple crisp, pumpkin pie and other fall treats won’t be far behind!

City plans for new wastewater treatment facility

ALGONA—With a historic wastewater treatment facility project looming on the horizon, the Algona City Council approved the first reading of a sewer rate ordinance amendment to fund the project.

Industrial Process Technology, Inc. awarded AMU water project bid

ALGONA—Algona Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees has accepted the low bid of $256,883 from Industrial Process Technology, Inc., based in Mitchell, S.D., for the AMU water treatment plant filter rehabilitation project. The winning bid from Industrial Process Technology, Inc., was less than the estimated project cost of $281,000.

Vehicles replaced, new check-in system will be available in future at KRHC

ALGONA—A report on capital purchases was given at the Tuesday, August 31 meeting of the  Kossuth Regional Health Center Board of Trustees. 

The purchases include three vehicles to replace the vehicles destroyed in the May fire at the maintenance shed. The KRHC Foundation purchased sleeper sofas and chairs for the inpatient area at KRHC.

LONE ROCK—The Fabulous Blackwood Quartet will be in concert at the Lone Presbyterian Church on Sunday, October 2. at 7 p.m.  A free will offering will be taken with all of the proceeds going to the quartet.

Briggs Daniel Fehr

Garth and Katrina (Gerber) Fehr of Whittemore announce the birth of their son, Briggs Daniel, on September 6, 2022, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. He weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. 

Briggs is welcomed home by his brother, Grayson.

Updated COVID-19 booster shots now available at KRHC

ALGONA—On Sept. 1, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention endorsed the use of updated COVID-19 booster shots that are specifically tailored to combat the two most prevalent omicron subvariants, BA.4 and BA.5. 

This decision comes just a day after the Food and Drug Administration’s emergency use authorization of the shots.

Crop, soybean production report

DES MOINES—Iowa corn production is forecast at 2.49 billion bushels, down 2 percent from the previous year, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Crop Production report. 

Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected to average 200.0 bushels per acre, down 5.0 bushels per acre from the August 1 forecast and down 5.0 bushels from last year.
