Skylar Elliot Becker, 27, left us far too soon. He passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at his home in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness. Skylar’s celebration of life service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3 at Grace Church in Algona. The family will greet guests one hour prior to the service. The services will be live-streamed and available through Lentz Funeral Home website. Lentz Funeral Home of Algona is assisting the family.

Skylar was born on Feb. 18, 1996, in Algona to Blane and Dominga Becker. His parents later divorced. Growing up, he loved penguins and all things aerospace. In high school, Skylar was a member of the Algona High School golf; Quiz Bowl; Model U.N.; and Academic Decathlon teams; he was a member of the Algona FFA chapter and was active in the Iowa Civil Air Patrol as a student cadet. After graduating from Algona High School in 2014, he attended Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids for a brief period.

In 2015 Skylar began working at the Starbucks on Williams Avenue in Cedar Rapids for four years. There he met a lot of interesting people and could recognize voices and would have their beverages typed in the computer before they could order them. In 2019 he began working at BioLife in Cedar Rapids as a phlebotomist. He also received training at BioLife to perform maintenance on the machines. In 2022, he began working at the Matthew 25 Corner Grocery store in Cedar Rapids as a team leader. There he thrived as he enjoyed working closely with those who lived and worked in his neighborhood of Cedar Rapids. He made many great friendships there and the Matthew 25 organization made a lasting impression on Skylar’s life.
