Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Fuerstenau will be held on Sat. Oct. 21, 2023, at 10 a.m.  at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Whittemore. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Seely-Walsh American Legion Post #425 of Whittemore.

Robert Arthur Fuerstenau was born Sept. 17, 1926, at Lotts Creek, the son of William and Theresa (Radig) Fuerstenau. He grew up on a farm in the Lotts Creek area and attended Algona High School, graduating in 1945. Following his schooling he entered the United States Navy and served until July of 1946. Upon his honorable discharge Bob returned to the Lotts Creek area and began farming.

On Sept. 7, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Gladys Struecker at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Whittemore. Following their marriage they lived and farmed in the Lotts Creek area before moving to a farm West of Whittemore in 1968.

Bob enjoyed being on the farm, playing cards and reading. He was a member of the Seely-Walsh American Legion Post #425 of Whittemore, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a past member of the Lotts Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he had served as a past president of the church board.

Bob died Sunday, Oct. 15 at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona, at the age of 97.

He is survived by his children, Wayne and Martha Fuerstenau of Whittemore; Rick and Marcia Fuerstenau of Algona; Gerald and Brenda Fuerstenau of Mallard and Linda and Tom Huseman of Alta; 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Davidson of Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys on Oct. 23, 2020, and three brothers, Reuben, Paul and Eugene Fuerstenau; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ervin and Frieda Struecker and brother-in-law, Richard Struecker.
