A funeral Mass for Kendra Thilges, 61, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Algona, will be held Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with Father Zach Jones and Deacon David Penton officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Algona.  Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona.

Kendra Ann Thilges was born to Kenny and Darlene (Seiler) Thilges on March 9, 1962, in Olympia, Wash. where Kenny served in the Army.  They moved to Algona in Aug., 1962. Kendra graduated from Algona Bishop Garrigan in 1980. After graduating high school Kendra chose to pursue a career in nursing. She attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.  Kendra worked for Exceptional Opportunities in Burt for several years after graduating nursing school. She was also employed at Hawkeye Home Healthcare for approximately four years before choosing to expand her career in travel nursing which she thoroughly enjoyed. Most recently she worked for the VA in Spirit Lake doing home health where she was employed for 13 years. 

Kendra moved to Spirit Lake approximately 17 years ago due to her love of lake life. Some of her hobbies included home decorating, planting flowers and going to movies. Kendra was a Martha & Mary consultant due to her love of decorating. She also attended summer theatre plays for entertainment. Mission trips were also a passion of hers.

 Kendra was never married. She was a very sociable person and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She was truly loved by all including her Veteran family.

 Those left to cherish her memories include her mom Darlene of Algona; brother Kraig (wife Kathy) of Algona; and brother Doug (fiancée Jackie Hovinga) of Algona. Her nieces and nephews that she is survived by include Ryan Davis of Mankato, Minn., Eric Thilges of Fort Dodge, Josh Thilges (fiancée Gabby Fritz) of Waukee, Kaylee Hockett (fiancée Logan Gast) of Sheffield, Brandee Hockett (fiancée Kyle Pratt) of Spencer and Spencer Thilges (significant other Jordan Smith) of Algona; great nieces and nephews that she is survived by include Laiyla, Kholson, Raelyn and Levi.

 Kendra was preceded in death by her father Kenny in Feb. 2023, and her sister Karla in Nov. 2006.
