A Sharing of Memories was held Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at 6 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona. His family began greeting friends at 4 p.m. on Friday at Oakcrest.

Edward Charles Hrdlicka was born Oct. 1, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Jack and Iona (Campbell) Hrdlicka. He grew up in Cedar Rapids where he attended Jefferson High School.

Following high school, Ed met Kathleen McGuire in Cedar Rapids. The two were united in marriage on Oct. 8, 1982, in Marion. After marriage Ed and Kathy moved to Marshall, Mo. While living there, Ed attended truck driving school and embarked on a long and fulfilling career in the world of trucking. Ed and Kathy made their home in Lu Verne and Ed began his trucking career with Umthun Trucking in Eagle Grove. They were blessed with two children who brought love and happiness to their family. In their younger years, Ed and Kathy shared a mutual passion for riding their Harley Davidson motorcycle. They also enjoyed socializing with their friends. After a house fire in 1992, the family moved to Algona.

Ed worked for various trucking companies throughout his career. His journey as a truck driver took him over countless miles of highways and byways, covering 48 states, and he became a familiar figure on the open road. Ed’s love for truck driving extended beyond his professional life. He found immense joy in sharing his passion with his family, offering them the experience of riding in his semi-truck.

Sports played a significant role in Ed’s life. He had a deep love for football, particularly for the Miami Dolphins and the Iowa Hawkeyes. NASCAR was another area where Ed found excitement and thrills. He attended a couple of races and had a special connection with the sport. His favorite drivers, Dale Earnhardt and Jimmy Johnson, had a special place in his heart. Ed enjoyed playing pool, golfing, and talking about sports with friends and family. Ed’s true happiness revolved around spending time with his family and cherishing the company of his friends.
