Dolores Elaine (Christian) Fox, age 91 of Titonka, passed away on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at the Titonka Care Center surrounded by her five children.

Dolores was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Mason City, daughter of Melvin and Olga (Handeland) Christian. She was baptized on Nov. 6, 1932, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. Dolores was confirmed on July 27, 1947, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of rural Gruver.

Dolores’ early school days through 8th grade were in a one room schoolhouse. In 1947 she started attending high school at Augustana Academy in Canton, S.D., graduating in 1950. Following high school Dolores started working for Bell Telephone Co. as an operator in Estherville.

On Nov. 1, 1952, she was united in marriage to Rollie Fox. To this union five children were born: Jolene, Janel, Douglas, Mark and Rodney. In 1957, the Fox family moved to Titonka where they owned and operated Rollie’s Food Center until June of 1990. While raising her five children she helped with many things at the store. Dolores also worked as secretary/treasurer for the Titonka School Board, part-time at the Titonka Library, part-time at Stock Veterinary Clinic and part-time at Titonka-Burt Telephone offices.

Dolores had a passion for sewing and quilting. She made many dresses for her girls, including wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses. Over the years she made quilts for her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite memories was time spent sewing and quilting for the many charities the Good Hope quilters supported. Dolores enjoyed being involved with many local ladies’ groups including the Titonka Federated Club, Red Hat Society, Cub Scout leader and served and supported many Good Hope Lutheran Church service groups.

Dolores is survived by her children: Jolene (Rodney) Dietz of Plainfield, Janel (Pat) Bock of Glidden, Douglas (Cheryl) Fox of New Hope, Minn., Mark (Jeanette) Fox of Clive and Rodney (Becky) Fox of Waukee; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Loren Christian of East Lansing, Mich., sister Arlene Hockett of Estherville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and brother Marvin.
