50 year class reunion for St. John's Bancroft

St. John’s Bancroft 50 year class reunion was held Saturday Aug. 31 in Bancroft. The class of 42 had 27 in attendance and one member, Donna Blocker, is deceased.

Goats, kittens and watermelon - what a wonderful way to host a block party

On a beautiful crisp fall weeknight, Wednesday, Sept. 4, the First United Methodist Church celebrated the kick-off of The Vine with a block party. It was a great way to get to know neighbors, relax, visit our church community and offer delicious food, sweet treats and activities.

The Vine is UMC’s Wednesday night family church services which will begin Wednesday, Sept. 11 and run through May. The schedule for the family church service is as follows:

Public Safety Night Out to be held at Fairgrounds

Public Safety Night Out will be held at the Kossuth County Fairgrounds on Thursday, September 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a variety of activities, demonstrations and opportunities to connect with local public safety personnel.

Hunter Education Field Day Class

The Kossuth County Conservation Board will hold a Hunter Education Field Day Class this fall. The course will meet on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 8 - 11 a.m.. at the Izaak Walton league located at 2408 Highway 169.

Community conversation on solar power

On Sept. 17, Kossuth County ISU Extension and Outreach is hosting a community conversation on solar power to collect community perspectives on utility-scale solar development. Residents of Kossuth County and the surrounding area are invited to attend and learn more about utility-scale solar energy development and participate in facilitated discussions on topics including economic, environmental, and social costs and benefits.

The Kossuth County Democratic Party is excited to host its 2nd annual Dolores Mertz Scholarship fundraiser. Our special guest will be Olympian and current State Representative Josh Turek. Join us as we gather to support our young people in our community. This event will combine our scholarship fundraiser with our Chautauqua talk series. Andrew Smith appointed as District Judge

DES MOINES– Gov. Kim Reynolds announced her appointment of Andrew Smith as a district judge in Judicial District 3A.

Smith, of Alta, Iowa, serves as a district associate judge in Judicial District 3A. He received his undergraduate degree from Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State) and law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law.

Farmers Market: Fall favorites around the corner

The seasons are starting to change in the fields and the Kossuth County Farmers Market. The midweek market on Wednesdays has ended for the season, but Saturdays will keep going through October 12.

Leadership Iowa 2024-25 participants and community hosts announced

Forty leaders from across the state have been selected to participate in the 2024-25 program of Leadership Iowa, Iowa’s premier issues-awareness program offered by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) Foundation. More than 1,400 Iowans have taken part in the program since it began in 1982. Participants represent all regions of the state and a variety of industries, companies, and backgrounds.
