Howard Hong was greatly responsible for the arts and culture within the Prisoner of War (POW)  camp that helped the POWs cope. Most of the artwork done by German POWs that is displayed at the POW Museum was made possible by Hong who recognized the neccessity of a creative outlet for the mental and emotional well-being of the POWs.
