Douglas Wayne Marlow, the son of Pershing Woodrow Marlow and Arlene Ruth (Gifford) Marlow was born on June 16, 1951, in Algona. Doug grew up on a farm near Union Slough with his three sisters, Judy, Linda and Lisa. He graduated from Burt High School in 1971. Doug married Linda Chipman on June 17, 1972. The couple had two children Cole and Amy.
Douglas worked at Hormel in Algona for 40 years. In his free time Doug was an avid outdoorsman with a love of fishing and hunting. Doug looked forward to the annual opening weekend pheasant hunt with friends from several states making the journey. He loved the friendship and card games that followed. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and sharing his produce. He and the family raised two acres of asparagus and sold it at many farmers markets over the years. You could find him on his patio listening to classic country and Elvis’s music while grilling his famous chicken hindquarters and sharing it with friends and family. He was always up to go for a Slough Cruise with friends to look for wildlife while enjoying a beer…or two. In his life, he was blessed with five granddaughters. At one family celebration he gifted all of his grandchildren with Red Ryder BB guns, in hopes they would love the outdoors as much as he did. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Doug had a love for all of his pets, especially the many dogs over the years.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Linda of Burt, his children Cole Marlow (Kristin Pearson) of Algona, Amy (Dennis) Monson of Burt, five granddaughters Bailey, Elyssa and Peyton Marlow and Rachel and Callie Monson. Doug is also survived by his three sisters Judy Eckles, Linda Agostine, Lisa (Pat) Foertsch and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ping and Arlene Marlow. His mother and father-in-law Boone and Naoma Chipman, his brothers-in-law, Dennis Meister, Randy Polz, Don Agostine and Wayne Eckels and nephew, Taylor Foertsch.
