Lead Summary

ALGONA — His latest visit to Haiti was an eye-opener for Danny LeBlanc.
LeBlanc had gone to Haiti in 2013 and 2014, but his latest visit in October, struck him harder than the first two.
“The first couple of times what struck me about Haiti was the level of poverty,” he said. “I had been ready for it, but wasn’t ready for the level I had seen like that.”
Hurricane Matthew demolished Haiti. “They are still living in shacks and you are wondering how they are still living in them,” he said. “They are still living in the rubble and you go how are they living with this? It is unbelievable.”
