Bulldogs go 1-1 in Algona Classic

Algona split a pair of softball games in the Algona Classic played on Saturday, June 10 as the red-and-black defeated Eagle Grove 9-2 in the opener but fell to fifth-ranked (Class 1A) North Butler 3-2 in eight innings in their second game.
North Butler defeated Eagle Grove 11-0 in six innings in the other game of the classic.  Algona is now 8-3 overall on the year as North Butler improved to 11-2 and Eagle Grove is now 9-7 overall.
In the opener of the day, both teams plated a run in the first inning as the home team scored when Emma Hjelle was hit-by-a-pitch with one out and came around to touch the dish when Aliyah Buscher reached on an error.
The Bulldogs exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-1 advantage.  Grace Meints lead off with a single and Ashlyn Richardson reached on an error with Morgan Erpelding pinch-running for Meints and Abby Groen ran for Richardson.
Teylor Rindone followed with a bunt single to load the bases and both Erpelding and Groen scored when Janna Julius reached base on an Eagle Grove error.
