Warrior boys’ golfers cruise in season opener

EAGLE GROVE—Opening the 2023 season on a positive note, the North Union Warrior boys’ golf team cruised to a season opening victory.

The green-black-and-silver compiled a team total of 173 on Thursday, April 6 to easily top Eagle Grove’s team score of 204.

North Union girls drop season opener to Eagles

EAGLE GROVE—Opening their 2023 season on the road, the North Union Warrior girls’ golf squad dropped their season opener 227-242 to the Eagle Grove Eagle in a non-conference meet held on Thursday, April 6.

Olivia Von Bank of North Union earned the medalist honor with her nine-hole score of 48 while Kennedy Thacker of Eagle Grove took the runner-up medal with her total of 52.

Nielsen runner-up medalist for WB-M boys

GOWRIE—Houston Nielsen tied for the runner-up medalist honors to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ golf team in their season opener on Thursday, April 6.

Nielsen tied with Elias Feld of Southeast Valley for the runner-up medalist honors as each player fired a 45 while the Jaguars’ Will Comp was the medalist with his score of 43.

Bulldog boys win Charlie Bunn Relays

HUMBOLDT—Algona won just five events but double scoring in many events spurred the team to first place at the annual Charlie Bunn Relays held here on Thursday, April 6.

The red-and-black finished second in nine more events to amass a winning team score of 162 points as Clear Lake was a distant second place with 133½ points.

AHS track girls edge Fort Dodge by one point for title

EAGLE GROVE—By the slimmest of margin, the Algona Bulldog girls’ track squad claimed the team title on Thursday, April 6 at the Lady Eagle Relays track meet.

The red-and-black’s team total of 129 edged out Fort Dodge High’s 128 to claim the team title in the nine-team field. The Bulldogs won three individual titles along with four relays.

Wolverine girls compete in triangular at Poky

POCAHONTAS—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ golf squad competed in a triangular meet held at the Pocahontas Golf & Country Club on Monday, April 10.

Taking first in the meet with a score of 203 was Newell-Fonda as Pocahontas Area was second with a total of 208 followed by Sioux Central with a 241 and West Bend-Mallard placed fourth with a team score of 298.

Wolverine girls’ golf open season on road

GOWRIE—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ golf squad opened the 2023 season on the road and did something they did not do all of the 2022 campaign, have enough golfers to establish a team score.

The purple-and-gold turned in a team score of 317 to finish in second place on the day against Southeast Valley, who won the dual meet played on Thursday, April 6 with a team total of 235.

Gambell leads WB-M boys with a 46

WEST BEND—West Bend-Mallard went 1-2 at a boys’ golf meet played on Monday, April 10 at the West Bend Golf & Country Club.

Newell-Fonda turned in the low score of the day with a 173 total as Pocahontas Area was next with a 202 followed by West Bend-Mallard with a 208 and Sioux Central was fourth with a score of 221.

Jones, Fogarty return to all-area team

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan senior Andrew Fogarty and North Union Kyan Jones are the lone repeaters on the 26th edition of the Kossuth County Advance first-team all-area squad while Sam Fehr of West Bend-Mallard and Jack Grandgenett of Bishop Garrigan move up from last year’s second team unit.

BG boys’ golf team opens season at home

LIVERMORE—In their season opener at the beautiful Spring Valley Golf Course just north of Livermore, the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear boys’ golf team fell to a pair of non-conference opponents.

Humboldt edged out the Spencer Tigers 175-176 to win the meet while the black-and-gold finished in third place with a team total of 198.

WB-M boys win two relays at Britt

BRITT—The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team won a pair of relays on Monday, April 3 at the annual Bob Sanger Co-Ed Relays. The purple-and-gold finished in fifth place in the team standings with a total of 71 points.

Wolverine girls win Bob Sanger Relays

BRITT—Winning 10 events on the night propelled the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ track squad to a first place finish at the Bob Sanger Co-Ed Relays held on Monday, April 3.

The purple-and-gold won six individual events and took four relays as the team compiled a winning team total of 151 points.

Two four-time choices highlight girls’ all-area team

The 26th edition of the Kossuth County Advance Girls’ All-Area Basketball team is highlighted by a pair of talented young ladies that make the squad for the fourth time in their fabulous high school careers that will now continue at the next level.
