Brooks, Lampe 1-2 at league dual meet

ALGONA—Abby Brooks and Olivia Lampe of Algona collected both of the medals in a North Central Conference girls’ golf dual meet played on Tuesday, May 2 at the River Road Golf Club.

Brooks claimed the medalist honor in the meet with her nine-hole total of 47 while teammate Lampe earned the runner-up medal with her season-best score of 51.

The Bulldogs won the league match with a team total of 203 to top Clarion-Goldfield/Dows’ team score of 229 during the evening.

Cowboys top Algona boys’ golfers

GOLDFIELD—Algona dropped a North Central Conference boys’ golf match at the Oakridge Golf Course on Tuesday, May 2 to the Clarion-Goldfield/Dows Cowboys.

The Cowboys amassed a team score of 174 during the day to topple the Bulldogs’ team total of 190 in league dual meet.

John Cox led Algona with a nine-hole total of 44 while teammate Harrison Waltz contributed a 46 followed by Austin Steenhoek with a 48.

Algona tops Golden Bear girls in intercity battle

LIVERMORE—In another edition of the cross-town battle, the Algona Bulldog girls’ golf squad defeated the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears 207-223 in a non-conference quadrangular played at Spring Valley.

Clear Lake won the match on Thursday, May 4 with a sizzling team score of 170 as Algona was second with a 207 as Humboldt placed third with a 213 and Bishop Garrigan was fourth with a team total of 223.

Three gold medal winners for BGHS at E-Hawk Invite

EMMETSBURG—Placing first in three different events on Monday, May 8 highlighted the performances of the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls’ track squad at the E-Hawk Invite.

The black-and-gold finished in fourth place in the five-team meet on Monday with a team total of 98 points as the Spencer Tigers placed first with a team score of 163.

WB-M girls place 6th at Sioux Central

SIOUX RAPIDS—In the their final chance to compete before Thursday’s Class 1A regional track meet, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ track squad finished in sixth place with 65 points at the Sioux Central Co-Ed Relays on Monday, May 8.

The top place winner for the purple-and-gold came in the 4 x 800-meter relay where the group of Rylie Frerk, Addie Montag, Morgan Montag and Tyra Schupbach finished in second place in 11:21.86.

Two wins for Wolverine girls at South O’Brien

PAULLINA—A pair of wins on Thursday, May 4 at the Wolverine Relays highlighted the performances of the West Bend-Mallard girls’ track squad.

The purple-and-gold amassed a team total of 54 points to place fifth in the seven-team field as Sioux Central finished first with 150.5 points.

Warrior girls win three events at Manly

MANLY—In their final tune-up before Thursday’s regional track meet, the North Union Warrior girls won three events at the Panther Co-Ed Relays on Monday, May 8.

The green-black-and-silver finished in fifth place in the nine-team field in the standings with 78 points. The meet was called after the 1,500-meter run with the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400-meter relay remaining due to incoming weather.

Wolverine boys win shuttle hurdle relay

SIOUX Rapids—A first place showing in the shuttle hurdle relay highlighted the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team on Monday, May 8 at the Sioux Central Co-Ed Relays.

The purple-and-gold ended the evening with a team total of 45 points to place sixth. The meet was called after the 400-meter hurdles due to incoming weather.

WB-M boys earn two second places at South O’Brien

PAULLINA—A pair of runner-up finishes highlighted the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ track team at the Wolverine Relays ran on Thursday May 4.

The purple-and-gold scored 43 points to place sixth in the seven-team field as Sioux Central captured the team title with 112 points.

Crooks is Drake Relays runner-up in shot put

DES MOINES—Bishop Garrigan’s Audi Crooks was the runner-up in the shot put to highlight the performances of seven area athletes at the annual Drake Relays on April 27-29.

Crooks tossed the steel ball 42’ 10¾” to earn the silver medal in the event as Charlee Morton of Hampton-Dumont placed first with a toss of 43’ 3½”.

Wolverine boys play in league tournament

STORM LAKE—On Monday, May 1 at the Lake Creek Golf Course, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys’ golf team competed in the Twin Lakes Conference golf tournament.

The purple-and-gold finished in 12th place overall with a team total of 459 as the Emmetsburg E-Hawks coached by Tyler Bjustrom won the league title with a team score of 346.

WB-M girls host Twin Lakes Conference tourney

FORT DODGE—Playing as the host at the Lakeside Golf Course just north of here on Monday, May 1, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine girls’ golf squad finished in 12th place with a team score of 529.

AHS boys run away with Hackbarth Relays title

ALGONA—Winning gold medals in 11 different events, the Algona Bulldog boys’ track team ran away with the team title in the Hackbarth Relays held on Monday, May 1.

The red-and-black cruised to the team title in the five-team meet with a team total of 212 points while Bishop Garrigan finished in third place with 101 points.

AHS boys place 4th in West Hancock tourney

BRITT—Playing at the Britt Country Club on Saturday, April 29, the Algona Bulldog boys’ golf team placed fourth overall with a team total of 358 in the seven-team field in the West Hancock Invitational.

John Cox led the way for the red-and-black with a 10th-place finish with his score of 42-47—89 closely followed by Austin Steenhoek in 11th with a 45-44-89 and Harrison Waltz ended up in 12th place overall with his 44-45—89.

Spencer tops Bulldogs girls’ golfers

 

 

ALGONA—In a non-conference girls’ golf match played on Monday, May 1 at the River Road Golf Club, the Spencer Tigers defeated the Algona Bulldogs by the score of 194-223.

Mo McDermott of Spencer had the low score of the day with a 40 as both Sarah Wassom of Spencer and Abby Brooks carded 50’s to tie for the runner-up medalist honors.

Warriors earn three medals at Lake Mills

LAKE MILLS—In a non-conference match played on Friday, April 28 at the Rice Lake Golf Course, the North Union Warrior boys’ and girls’ golf teams took home three of the four medals in the quadrangular meet.

The green-black-and-silver girls’ placed first with a team total of 210 and took both of the medals as Olivia Von Bank was the medalist with a 48 and Amelia Fothergill took the runner-up medal with her nine-hole score of 51.
