Forest City tops Warriors 16-1

BANCROFT—A 10-run first inning was too much for the North Union Warriors baseball team to overcome on Friday, May 26 in a 16-1, five-inning Top of Iowa Conference baseball loss to the Forest City Indians.

The visitors added single runs in the third and fifth frames along with four tallies in the fourth stanza as the green-black-and-silver plated their only run in the bottom of the first inning.

Second-ranked Knights edge Algona Bulldogs 10-7

ALGONA—Algona battled second-ranked Mason City Newman pitch-by-pitch on Thursday, May 25, but the Knights plated four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a 10-7 non-conference baseball win over the red-and-black.

The home team scored first with a run in the first inning before the maroon-and-white plated one run in the second and two more in the third frame for an early 3-1 advantage.

Three straight wins for Monson in Algona

ALGONA—Oliver Monson won his third straight feature while Matt Looft and the Vader brothers won for the second time this summer to highlight Night No. 3 at the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, May 25.

A total of 60 cars signed in at the pit shack with the hobby stock class having the highest car count with 15 closely followed by the sport mods with 13 and the stock car class had 11 cars.

Warriors top North Iowa 13-1

BUFFALO CENTER—Picking up their first victory of the season, the North Union Warriors softball squad earned a 13-1, six-inning win over the North Iowa Lady Bison on Wednesday, May 24 in Top of Iowa Conference action.

The green-black-and-silver scored three times in the first, once in both the third and fifth frames and put the contest away with eight tallies in the sixth stanza.

WB-M softball drops opener

LYTTON—For the first time in two years, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines’ softball squad competed in a game on Wednesday, May 24.

The purple-and-gold, who are playing a junior varsity schedule this summer, fell to South Central Calhoun by the score of 20-5 in four innings.

The Wolverines registered three hits in the loss as Laelah Crawmer, Mercy Thilges and Paige Frerk all had singles in the season opener.

North Union softball defeats E-Hawks 10-5

EMMETSBURG—Going on the road in non-conference softball play on Thursday, May 25, the North Union Warriors defeated the Emmetsburg E-Hawks by the score of 10-5.

Eighth-grader Shaylie Walders led the green-black-and-silver at the plate with three hits, including a pair of two-baggers.

WB-M softball drops road contest

WALL LAKE—Making a long road trip, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines junior varsity softball squad drop a 15-5, five-inning contest to East Sac County on Friday, May 26.

The purple-and-gold made much better than in their season opener on Wednesday evening as the team rapped out eight hits.

Both Avery Weydert and Kasey Douglas had three singles in the contest while teammates Mercy Thilges and Ashtyn Bollig each added a single.

Poky topples Golden Bears 7-1

POCAHONTAS—Pocahontas Area used two big innings to plate seven runs in a 7-1 non-conference softball victory over the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears on Tuesday, May 23.

The home team pushed across three tallies in the bottom of the first inning and added four big insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth frame, while the black-and-gold’s only tally came in the top of the third stanza.

NU softball falls 2-1 in season opener

ESTHERVILLE—North Union could only manage one run and four hits in a season opening 2-1 non-conference softball loss on Tuesday, May 23 to Estherville-Lincoln Central.

The home team pushed across single runs in both the fourth and sixth innings in the victory, while the green-black-and-silver’s only tally came in the top of the sixth frame.

Knights defeat Algona 5-2 in softball play

ALGONA—Mason City Newman exploded for five first inning runs and made those tallies hold up in a 5-2 non-conference softball victory over the Algona Bulldogs on Tuesday, May 23.

The Knights scored three runs on a red-and-black throwing error and added a two-run home run later in the opening stanza.

Warriors’ baseball team wins season opener

BUFFALO CENTER—Going on the road for their season opener on Wednesday, May 24, the North Union Warriors topped the North Iowa Bison 15-8 in Top of Iowa Conference baseball action.

The Warriors scored four times in the second, fifth and seventh innings along with two tallies in the first and a single run in the sixth, while the home team scored once in the second and fifth frames, twice in the third and four times in the final stanza.

Algona out-slugs E-Hawks 21-11

ALGONA—In a non-conference baseball contest that featured 32 runs and 20 hits, the Algona Bulldogs baseball team out-slugged the Emmetsburg E-Hawks 21-11 in six innings a wild game.

Each squad scored once in the first inning before a marathon second frame saw the visitors plate four runs only to see the red-and-black score a total of nine tallies in the bottom of the stanza to take a 10-5 advantage.

BG boys blank E-Hawks 13-0

EMMETSBURG—For the second straight evening, the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears baseball team did not allow a run.

The black-and-gold blanked the Emmetsburg E-Hawks 13-0 in five innings on Tuesday, May 23 in a non-conference contest.

The Golden Bears scored six times in the top of the first inning before two more in the second and single run in the third stanza. The visitors also plated three runs in the fourth frame and one in the fifth inning.

Golden Bears rout Lake Mills 20-0

LAKE MILLS—Bishop Garrigan erupted for 13 first-inning runs and cruised to a 20-0, four-inning Top of Iowa Conference baseball victory on Thursday, May 25 over the Lake Mills Bulldogs.

The black-and-gold scored three runs in both the second and fourth innings and added a single run in the top of third frame to end the contest early.
