Algona routs Cowgirls 15-3 in four innings

CLARION—Algona made the most of 10 hits in a 15-3, four-inning North Central Conference softball victory on Friday, June 9 over the Clarion-Goldfield/Dows Cowgirls.

The red-and-black scored two runs in the top of the first, added single runs in both the second and fourth stanza and blew the contest open with 11 runs in the third as the home team scored their only three runs in the first frame.

Golden Bears cruise past West Hancock 13-1

BRITT—Bishop Garrigan used two big innings to earn a 13-1, five-inning Top of Iowa Conference baseball victory on Friday, June 9 over the West Hancock Eagles.

The black-and-gold exploded for seven runs in third inning and six more in the fourth in the win as the home team scored their only run in the bottom of the second stanza.

Justin Bauer led the Golden Bear offense with two singles and a double while teammate Andrew Fogarty ripped a pair of doubles.

Wolverines shutout Sioux Central 5-0

PETERSON—Houston Nielsen twirled a two-hit shutout to lead the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines’ baseball team to a 5-0 Twin Lakes Conference victory on Friday, June 9 over the Sioux Central Rebels.

Nielsen worked all seven frames on the hill for the purple-and-gold for the win as he allowed no runs on the two hits while fanning seven, issued one base-on-balls and hit a pair of batters.

Eischen leads Algona past Cowboys

CLARION—Senior Jensen Eischen hit and pitched the Algona Bulldogs’ baseball team past the Clarion-Goldfield/Dows Cowboys 12-2 in six innings in a North Central Conference contest played on Friday, June 9.

Eischen did it all for the red-and-black as the right-hander tossed all six frames for the win. He allowed two unearned runs on five hits while fanning five batters and issued three base-on-balls.

WB-M softball notches second win of season

WEST BEND—For the second time this summer, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines’ junior varsity softball squad tasted victory with the latest being an exciting 12-11 win on Wednesday, June 9 over South Central Calhoun.

The visitors scored a run in the top of the first but the purple-and-gold answered with four tallies in the bottom of the frame for an early 4-1 lead.

Algona blanks Cadets 12-0 in four innings

ALGONA—Senior Lillian Etherington had three hits, including a two-bagger, scored three runs and drove in another to help lead the Algona Bulldogs to a 12-0, four-inning North Central Conference softball win on Wednesday, June 7 over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.

The home team scored two runs in the second inning, plated three more in the third stanza and ended the contest early with seven tallies in the bottom of the fourth frame.

Bishop Garrigan cruises past Indians 15-2

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning on Wednesday, June 9 and cruised to a 15-2, three-inning Top of Iowa Conference softball victory over the Forest City Indians.

The home team also plated four tallies in the bottom of the first stanza as the Indians pushed across their only two tallies in the top of the first frame.

Gomez leads Algona past Cadets 10-0

ALGONA—Senior Carlos Gomez hit and pitched the Algona Bulldogs’ baseball team to a 10-0, six-inning North Central Conference victory on Wednesday, June 7 over the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets.

Gomez pitched all six frames to earn the win on the hill. He allowed no runs on just one hit while fanning seven batters, issued two bas-on-balls and hit two batters.

Golden Bears take 3-2 walk-off win over Forest City

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a walk-off 3-2 Top of Iowa Conference baseball win over the Forest City Indians on Wednesday, June 7.

Justin Bauer reached on a fielder’s choice in the final frame as Benjy Trainer was called safe at second base on a close call as Andrew Fogarty touched home plate with the winning run.

Eagle Grove tops Warriors 10-3

EAGLE GROVE—Eagle Grove scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to break open a 4-1 contest and went onto a 10-3 Top of Iowa Conference baseball victory on Wednesday, June 7 over the North Union Warriors.

The Eagles also scored four times in the bottom of the third stanza as the green-black-and-silver plated one run in the top of the third frame and two more in the seventh.

Burns, Opheim make long-awaited return to victory lane

ALGONA—It has been awhile since James Burns and Kevin Opheim have pulled their cars into victory lane as both drivers enjoyed that pleasure on Thursday, June 8 to highlight an exciting night of dirt track racing at the Kossuth County Speedway.

WEST BEND—The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears’ junior varsity softball squad defeated the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines’ junior varsity squad on Thursday, June 8 by the score of 20-9.

Wolverines drop 14-6 road contest

 

 

MANSON—Traveling south for a road contest, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines’ junior varsity softball squad dropped a 14-6 decision on Monday, June 12 to the Manson Northwest Webster Cougars.

The home team scored three runs in both the first and sixth innings, plated five in the second, one in third and two in the fifth in the win as the Wolverines scored twice in the fourth frame, three times in the sixth and once in the seventh stanza.

Sioux Central defeats WB-M JV 16-6

PETERSON—Sioux Central scored five runs in the first, third and fourth innings and went onto a 16-6 victory in Friday, June 9 over the West Bend-Mallard junior varsity softball squad.

The Rebels also scored once in the fifth inning as the purple-and-gold tallied two runs in the second stanza, one in the third and three more in the fourth frame in the loss.
