Storm Lake rallies to walk off Bulldogs 11-10

STORM LAKE—For the second straight evening, the Algona Bulldogs’ baseball team let a big lead get away as the Storm Lake Tornadoes rallied for an 11-10 non-conference walk off win over the red-and-black on Tuesday, June 20.

The visitors scored two runs in the top of the first and six more in the top of the third stanza for an early 8-0 advantage.

Grobe wins Outlaw Mini-Mod feature

ALGONA—Making their annual visit to the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, June 22, a total of 15 outlaw mini-mods made an appearance at the track with Matthew Grobe of Austin, Mn. earning the win by leading the entire race.

North Union blanks Bulldogs 14-0 in six innings

LAKE MILLS—North Union moved one step closer to a perfect Top of Iowa Conference softball record with a 14-0, six-inning victory over the Lake Mills Bulldogs.

The green-black-and-silver broke open a close 1-0 contest in the top of the fourth inning with six runs and ended the game two innings later with seven more runs.

No. 9 Gaels blank Algona 3-0

ALGONA—Two St. Edmond pitchers limited the Algona Bulldogs’ softball squad to just one hit as the ninth-ranked Gaels shutout the red-and-black by the final score of 3-0 on Friday, June 23.

The green-and-white scored their only three runs of the contest in the top of the fourth inning to break a scoreless contest with Josie Harvey’s two-run double being the game’s key blow.

Post-season softball pairing are released

DES MOINES—On Friday, the post-season softball pairing were released by the Iowa High School Athletic Union for the three area squads as they know the teams that stand between them and the chance to play in the state softball tournament in Fort Dodge July 17-21.

Class 1A baseball assignments are out

BOONE—Class 1A baseball district and sub-state pairings were released last Thursday by the Iowa High School Athletic Association for the three area teams.

The Class 3A pairings, which includes the Algona Bulldogs, will be released sometime this week as teams will now know their path to a possible trip to the state baseball tournament on July 17-21 at Carroll or Iowa City.

GILMORE CITY—A four-run fifth inning proved to be the difference as East Sac County handed the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines’ baseball team an 8-6 Twin Lakes Conference loss on Friday, June 23.

The visitors jumped out to 4-0 advantage after the first two innings of play before the purple-and-gold cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the fourth frame.

Algona defeats Cadets 17-7 in NCC action

IOWA FALLS—Algona picked up win number 12 on the season on Monday, June 26 with 17-7, six-inning North Central Conference road baseball victory over the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets.

The visitors started quickly with five runs in the top of the first inning and one more in the second only to see Iowa Falls-Alden score five runs in the bottom of the frame.

Manske pitches Bulldogs past St. Edmond 6-1

ALGONA—Alex Manske tossed six strong innings to help lead the Algona Bulldogs’ baseball team on Friday, June 23 to 6-1 North Central Conference victory over the St. Edmond Gaels.

Manske allowed one unearned run on two hits while fanning 14 Gaels, walking three and hitting a batter. Jensen Eischen came on in relief to work a perfect seventh frame with one strikeout.

Wolverines edge G-T/R-A 4-3

GILMORE CITY—West Bend-Mallard scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth stanza to squeeze out a hard-fought 4-3 Twin Lakes Conference baseball victory over the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans on Monday, June 26.

Hampton-Dumont edges Algona softball team 10-9

ALGONA—Hampton-Dumont edged the Algona Bulldogs’ softball squad on Wednesday, June 21 by the final score of 10-9 in a North Central Conference contest.

The visitors started fast with five runs in the first inning and four more in the second and added the winning run in the top of the fourth stanza.

Bishop Garrigan softball flies past Cardinals 9-1

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan got ready for a rematch with Top of Iowa Conference leader North Union on Friday with a 9-1 league victory over the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals on Wednesday, June 21.

The black-and-gold scored single runs in both the first and fifth frames, added three in the fourth along with two runs in both third and sixth stanzas while the visitors scored their only run in the top of the first inning.

North Union cruises past Cardinals 12-0

GARNER—North Union earned a 12-0, three-inning Top of Iowa Conference softball victory on Tuesday, June 20 over the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on the road.

The green-black-and-silver plated six runs in the top of the first inning and ended the contest early with two runs in both the second and third stanzas.
