Burns wins exciting hobby stock feature

ALGONA—James Burns made an exciting pass coming out of turn number four with one lap to go for a feature win to highlight a night of dirt track racing on Thursday, Aug. 17 at the Kossuth County Speedway.

The second to last evening of racing in 2023 saw a total of 53 cars sign in at the pit shack as both the hobby stocks and stock car classes had the highest car count with 11 drivers.

ALGONA—I hope that at least once in the last four years, each of you had the opportunity to watch Bishop Garrigan’s post player Audi Crooks play  basketball.

If not, you missed a chance to see a once in a lifetime player, the best post player to ever play the five-on-five game in the history of the Iowa High School girls’ basketball history.

Ben Kern wins 30th Annual Randy Buscher Memorial

ALGONA—Ben Kern says the feeling never gets old. On Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Algona Country Club, the Algona native won the “Algona Am” for the sixth time as he rallied from a five-stroke deficit after the first 18 holes.

Garrett Heying participates in IBCA All-Star Series

 

Bishop Garrigan senior catcher Garrett Heying participated in the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Series. Heying was a member of the Small Schools West team that went a perfect 3-0 and was coached by Jason Beck of ADM with games being played at Merchants Park in Carroll on July 27-29.

Ulfers plays in Shrine Bowl game

 

Algona senior Lamorn Ulfers played in the annual Shrine Bowl football game at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on Saturday, July 22. Ulfers started at outside linebacker on the North squad that won the contest by the score of 29-15.

ALGONA—Jordan Grabouski has raced at a lot of race tracks during his great dirt track racing career but on Thursday, Aug. 10 it was first time the Beatrice, Neb. driver had ever raced at the Kossuth County Speedway.

ALGONA—Hall of Famer Jeff Aikey won the closest race of the 2023 SLMR series of the summer to highlight a special Saturday night edition of dirt track racing during the Harken-Hovinga Memorial race at the Kossuth County Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 5.
