Golden Bears fall in double OT
A young, scrappy Newell-Fonda hung around long enough to force two extra periods and took a 73-68 double overtime boys’ basketball victory over the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears.
Four players reached double figures for the Mustangs, who overcame an 11-point deficit in the first half and big performances from Cade Winkel and T.J. Schnurr for the black-and-gold in the Class 1A district semi-final contest played at Britt on Thursday, Feb, 21.
Bishop Garrigan started fast by scoring the first six points of the game before Bryce Coppock got the blue-and-white on the scoreboard with a three-pointer.
Baskets by Chase Winkel and Schnurr suddenly ballooned the lead to 10-3 before Coppock drained another triple for Newell-Fonda. After Chase Winkel and Coppock traded field goals, Schnurr nailed a three for the Golden Bears.
