The death of George Floyd, a black man, should not have happened. The white officer who knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes is rightfully charged with murder and will have his day in court. The other three officers who failed to respond to Floyd’s calls for help will have to live with those consequences as well.
The rest of us must deal with the ensuing fallout. Peaceful protesters with a purpose set out to call for change. Anti-government, anti-police and anarchist groups, some of them with paid perpetrators imported from other areas and states, set about infiltrating those protests and creating mayhem for their purposes. They were joined by thousands of others who took advantage of anonymity to do something just because they could. Businesses were burned and looted, and their owners, many of them minorities, lost their ways of life.
