Mary Lou Gruhn

Mary Lou (Whitcomb) Gruhn was born March 10, 1937, in Canton, Ohio, to Wilbur and June Whitcomb. She grew up in Canton, Ohio, and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., when she was 13. She had rheumatic fever as a child, and the family was told to move to Arizona in the hopes that her health would improve. Her health did improve, and she was able to return to school despite concerns that she would not make it past age 13. She graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1955.

Les Simpson

Leslie “Les” Simpson, age 66 of Algona, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, at his home in Algona. Memorial services were Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Algona with the Rev. Dave Grindburg officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery. Frank Folkerts

Funeral services for Frank Folkerts were Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Titonka with the Rev. Todd Hartsock officiating. Inurnment was in the Buffalo Township Cemetery. 

Eldon Brown

Eldon LeRoy Brown was born on the home farm near Fenton, on Sept. 2, 1927, to Fred H. and Ellen (Nelson) Brown. He passed away at Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake, on Jan. 24, 2020, at the age of 92 years.

Barbara Pfeffer

Barbara Pfeffer, age 67 of Burt, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at Ava’s Hospice Home in Sioux Falls, S.D. Memorial services were Monday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. at Lentz Funeral Home in Burt with the Rev. Bill Black celebrating. Burial will take place at a later date in Burt Township Cemetery in Burt. Visitation was Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services at Lentz Funeral Home in Burt.

Viola Douglas

Viola Douglas, 96, Fenton, passed away Jan. 25, 2020, at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona. Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 25, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fenton. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Rodman. Henry-Olson Funeral Home of Fenton is in charge of arrangements.

Colleen Black

Funeral Mass for Colleen Black was celebrated Monday, Jan. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with Father Edward Girres presiding. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Colleen Theresa Black was born March 13, 1930, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Wilhelmina (Neuroth) Erdman. She grew up in Algona and attended St. Cecelia’s Academy, graduating in 1948. After her schooling, she worked at the courthouse.

Harold Haag

Harold Leon Haag, 85, passed away peacefully on Jan. 21, 2020. Funeral Mass was Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore. Burial was in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Seely-Walsh American Legion Post #425, Whittemore.

Donna Entler

Donna J. (Ehrhardt) Entler of Humboldt passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2020. Services were at noon, Friday, Jan. 31, at the Lentz Funeral Home in Humboldt, and visitation was one hour prior to the service.
 

Kaethe Hahn

Kaethe (Walewski) Hahn was born Nov. 5, 1923, in East Prussia, Germany, to Herman and Clara (Neuman) Walewski. She received her education in Germany till the until the age of 14. She then went on to technical school where she learned baking, cooking and housekeeping skills. Kaethe was united in marriage to Alfred Otto Hahn in Locken, Germany, on Nov. 25, 1944.

Robert Erickson

Memorial services for Robert “Bob” Erickson were Sunday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona with Rev. David Penton presiding. Inurnment will be at a later date. 
Robert Joseph Erickson was born Feb. 24, 1953, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Mary Louise (Hauptmann) Erickson. He grew up in Wesley where he attended school, and he then went on to attend Corwith-Wesley High School, graduating in 1971. After his schooling, he began work as a truck driver.

Esther Dickmeyer

Esther Abbas Dickmeyer, 87, passed away peacefully Jan. 4, 2020, in Britt.
Esther was born in Lakota, graduated from Titonka High School and married Ordel Dickmeyer in 1949. They were married in Seattle, Wash., and they lived in Washington state until 1994. They resided in Buffalo Center and more recently in Britt.

Lyle Nelson

Lyle Nelson, 91, Livermore, passed away Jan. 21, 2020, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Livermore.  Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Livermore, with military rites by Iowa National Guard Honor Guard and the Otto-Field American Legion Post #415 of Livermore. Visitation was 10-11 a.m., Monday at the church. The Lentz Funeral Home is serving the family.

Larry Torkelson

Larry Torkelson, 68, Dakota City, passed away Jan. 15, 2020, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. His body was donated to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, Humboldt. Visitation is 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Lentz Funeral Home, Humboldt, is serving the family.

Curtis White

Curtis White, 72, Gilmore City, passed away at Humboldt Memorial Hospital Jan. 14, 2020. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Lentz Funeral Home in Humboldt is serving the family.

A funeral Mass for Marie Welp will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. ,Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with Father Edward Girres officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.
