Leo Murray

A funeral Mass for Leo Murray was celebrated on Friday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with Father Edward Girres officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Leo James Murray was born on the family farm, now a Century Farm, in Galva, Iowa, on July 4, 1939, to Francis “Frank” and Opama (Weiss) Murray. He was the youngest of four children and lived on the family farm until graduation from high school. Leo was active in the local 4-H Club during his teen years.

Harley Bruellman

Harley D. Bruellman, the son of George and Clara Gerber Bruellman was born March 24, 1927, in Algona, Iowa. He was raised and received his education in Ottosen, Iowa, where he attended country school.

Donald Cook

Donald “Don” Ray Cook, Loveland, Colo., died Sunday, May 10, 2020.
Don was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Algona to Raymond “Ray” Tilton and Katherine “Pat” (Cavanaugh) Cook. He graduated from Algona High School in 1953. He was an accomplished trumpeter and played in his dad’s swing band across Iowa.

Dan Patten

Daniel Robert Patten was born Dec. 15, 1949, in Albert Lea, Minn., the son of Robert and Louise Patten. He grew up in Albert Lea before moving to Winnebago, Minn., during high school. Dan started working for his father’s roofing company when he was 14 years old. He attended and graduated from Winnebago High School then went on to Buena Vista University.

Cody Fortune

Cody Fortune, age 28 of Algona, passed away on May 16, 2020. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, at the Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing practices will be followed.

Leslie Uken

Leslie Uken, 60, Clear Lake, died May 11, 2020, in Mason City. Leslie was born Aug. 16, 1959. Funeral services were held May 15 at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Titonka. Interment was in Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka. Online condolences can be left at www.oakcrestfuneralservices.com.

Joshua Meyer

Joshua Ronald Meyer was born Dec. 29, 1981, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Ronald and Mary Ellen (Elbert) Meyer. He grew up in Whittemore and graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School in 2000. While in high school, Joshua was all-state in football and played golf. After graduating, Josh went on to DMACC to earn a degree in Horticulture.

Lois Stein

Lois Ann (Sandt) Stein was born Nov. 3, 1932, in Bancroft, Iowa. She was the daughter of Nicholas and Ione (Farrow) Sandt. She was raised on a farm near Bancroft. Lois graduated from St. John’s Catholic School in Bancroft in 1950. After high school, she attended and graduated from Tobin Business School in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

John ‘Jack’ Williams

John “Jack” Robert Williams, 74, Windsor Heights, died unexpectedly of non-COVID pneumonia at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, on May 2, 2020, at the age of 74.
The family will not be having a public memorial.

Fern Willey

A private family funeral service for Fern Willey was held Tuesday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona with the Rev. Steve Nofel, pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery in Algona.
Fern Larene Willey was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Swea City, the daughter of Doyle and Eunice (McFarland) Sanders. She graduated from Lone Rock High School in 1945. On Oct. 9, 1946, she was married to Paul “Pete” Willey in Swea City.

Robert Sigsbee

Robert Sigsbee Jr., age 71 of Algona, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at his home. No formal services are planned at this time.

Rita Thilges

Rita M. Thilges died Monday, April 27, 2020, at the age of 96 at the Algona Manor Care Center. Private graveside services were held Friday, May 1, at Calvary Cemetery, Algona, with Father Edward M. Girres and Rev. William Black officiating.
Rita Matilda Thilges was born June 3, 1923, in Duncombe, Iowa, the daughter of Herman George and Philomena Mary (Hessler). She attended West Bend Catholic School and Ottosen School and prior to marriage, did domestic work at home.

Gary Haines

Gary Haines, 76 of Algona and formerly of Estherville, died April 29, 2020, at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona. Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic restrictions, only private family services will be held at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel, Estherville. Burial is in East Side Cemetery, Estherville.

Charles Hinken

Charles “Chuck” Albert Hinken of Burnsville, Minn., passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at the age of 97.
Charles, the son and only child of Albert and Wilhelmina Hinken, was born in Hampton, Iowa, on July 5, 1922. Charles served his country in the United States Army Air Forces during WWII. He married the love of his life, Mary Virginia “Ginny” Sernett, on Feb. 21, 1946.

Clarence Casey

Clarence Henry Casey passed away at his home on April 25, 2020, with family at his side. He was 92 years old.
A private family Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, Iowa, at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, with the Rev. Edward M. Girres officiating. It will be streamed live will be streamed live on St. Cecelia’s YouTube page (youtube.com/user/stceceliaalgona). Burial will be in the St. Benedict Cemetery, Algona.
