Richard C. Buscher

April 22, 1933 — Dec. 31, 2016

ALGONA — A funeral Mass for Richard C. Buscher, 83, of Algona, was held on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at 11 a.m., at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with a Flag Presentation Ceremony conducted by the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post No. 90 and the V.F.W. Post No. 2541 of Algona.

Richard Charles Buscher was born April 22, 1933, in Gilmore City, son of Joseph and Marie (Schuller) Buscher. At the age of 7 his family moved to Algona. Dick graduated from St. Cecelia Academy in 1951, and then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Virginia Rahe on December 29, 1954, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft.

In December of 1955, Dick and his brother Gib began Buscher Brothers Implement Dealership in Algona.  He retired in 1998. During his retirement years, Dick became even more focused on serving others — not farmers, not implement dealers, not customers in need of parts, but rather his later years allowed him to dedicate his time and energy to his great love and passion — his family starting with his wife whom no one called “Virginia” except for Dick.

With his wife Gini at his side, there was no road trip too long, no countryside not beautiful enough, no graduation not worth attending, no great-grandchild any less of a blessing than the one before. Dick’s true joy and humility came from spending time and supporting the many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whose lives were made possible from the union of Dick and Gini. Dick was a humble, steadfast servant first and foremost to his Lord and then to Gini and his family, all of whom he loved and cherished deeply.

Dick was an active member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church serving on the finance board and as an usher.  He was a member of the Lion’s Club serving as past president, he was a member of the Ag committee of the Chamber of Commerce, and he served on the county Planning and Zoning Board.

Richard C. Buscher died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at the age of 83.

He is survived by his wife of 62 year, Gini Buscher of Algona; six children, Terry (Liz) Buscher of Algona, Mark (Laurie) Buscher of Blue Springs, Mo., Doug (Chris) Buscher of Wake Forest, N.C., Dan (Mary) Buscher of West Des Moines, Conni (Chris) Thoms of Round Rock, Texas, and Jan Buscher of Lakewood, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and seven brothers, Bob (Jeannette) Buscher, Jeanette McEnroe, Gib (Bev) Buscher, Jim Buscher, Tom Buscher, Joe (Chris) Buscher all of Algona, Ron (Mary) Buscher of Monticello, Mary Joe (Merlin) Studer of Wesley, and Larry Buscher of Algona; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Michelle Buscher in infancy; and three brothers and one sister, Donnie Buscher, Ray Buscher, Jack Buscher and Catherine “Sis” Reeve.
