Linda Kay Bahr

Nov. 26, 1937 — Feb. 25, 2019

Former Livermore resident Linda Kay Bahr passed away on Feb. 25, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society-Algona. She was 81 years old.

Linda Kay Butler was born Nov. 26, 1937, to parents Luther and Maude Humble Butler on her family’s farm south of Livermore. She was raised on that farm and attended Livermore schools.

At Livermore High School she was active in band and was named queen of the Mason City Band Festival in 1954. She graduated in 1955 and entered the University of Iowa that fall.

In 1956, Linda married John R. Bahr. They later divorced. His work with farm implement parts took them to Okabena, Minn. and Hampton. They had two sons, Robert Allen and Jeffrey Michael, and they later moved to Livermore.

Linda was a business partner who handled the back office operations for Bob’s Grinding, a machine shop that specialized in rebuilt clutch assemblies and other tractor parts sold to farm implement dealers throughout the Midwest. They operated their business in Bode and Livermore.

For five years, Linda served as secretary for the Livermore and Lu Verne United Methodist churches. She served as a United Methodist Lay Speaker and as a delegate to the Iowa General Conference.

Sons Robert and Jeff; as well as sisters Mary Colwell and Eva Ferstl; and brothers Ralph Butler, Charles Butler and James Butler preceded Linda in death. She is survived by a grandson, Trey Skiles of Joshua, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. After the death of her son Bobby in 1980 in a motorcycle accident, Linda co-founded the Algona Chapter of Compassionate Friends, a support group for grieving parents.

A lover of the outdoors, Linda most enjoyed fishing trips to Canada or a weekend with family at the lake. While she was fortunate to have traveled to some fun and exotic locations, she loved getaways to her place on East Lake Okoboji.

Memorial services for Linda Kay Bahr will be held at a later date. Her body was cremated and the cremains will be interred between her sons at Union Cemetery in Livermore.

Lentz Funeral Home of Algona and Livermore is assisting the family with arrangements.
