Larry E. Olson, 80, Algona, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona. Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Lentz Funeral Home, Algona, with the Rev. David Grindberg officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #2541 and the Haag-Turner American Legion Post #90 of Algona. Visitation was at 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Lentz Funeral Home.
Larry E. Olson, the son of Carl and Blanche (Benson) Olson, was born June 6, 1938, in Grinnell. On June 28, 1956, Larry was enlisted to the United States Marine Corp and was discharged on April 27, 1959. On April 8, 1961, Larry was united in marriage with Phyllis Weiland at the United Methodist Church in Wesley. He was employed by Hormel as a master electrician. Larry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, woodworking, watching NASCAR races and tending to his flowers in the front of his home.
Left to cherish Larry’s memory are his two daughters, Kim Opheim and her husband Dan of Cylinder and Shellie Payton and her husband David of Powhatan, Ark.; a son, Stacy Olson of Littleton, Colo.; five grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, Alex, Britney and Dawson; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; sister, Donna Mae Sampson; and two brothers, Richard and LaVerne Olson.
