ALGONA — A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona. Visitation was held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona.
Joel Arthur McNeill was born in Algona on Nov. 6, 1945, son of John and Evelyn (Cruikshank) McNeill. He grew up in Algona graduating from Algona High School. He went on to Iowa State University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in farm operations.
Following college, he server his country in Vietnam then worked for Funk Seed International as a regional sales manager. Then he worked as the president of Doane Farm Management. He retired back to the farm and raised hogs for Murphy Family Farms and farmed in partnership with his brother raising bottle calves.
Joel was a hard worker and in his free time could be found enjoying the out of doors. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife Marina. He was a member of the Good Hope United Methodist Church, Lone Rock.
Joel died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at his home. He was 72.
He is survived by his wife, Marina; brother, Michael (Polly) McNeill of Algona; nieces, Catherine (Brian) Upper of Johnston, Molly (Rob) Vincent of Polk City, Elizabeth (Andrew) Bolstad of Ames; great-nieces and nephews, William, Ellen, Allison, Andrew, Evelyn; Aunt, Mary (Cruikshank) Grefe, and great family friends, David and Kar Cederwall and their children, Satchel (Kaitlynn), Mason, Serik, and Payton.
Preceding him in death are his parents and stepson, Alexander Yuvkin.
