Joanne Mary Hackett, 86, Omaha, Neb., passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at Golden Living Center in Plattsmouth, Neb.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The Rev. Bill McCarthy officiated. Burial is in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Marcus. Public visitation was at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. There was a time of sharing at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Joanne Mary Hackett, the daughter of Louis and Dorothy (Heller) Weber was born Jan. 12, 1933, in Marcus. Her childhood years were spent in the Marcus area, where she attended Amherst Township School #8 until eighth grade. She then attended and graduated from Holy Name High School in 1951. She attended MBT Business College in Sioux City. After college, she worked for Nelson Hatchery from 1952 to 1957.
On June 17, 1957, Joanne was united in marriage to Duane Hackett at Holy Name Catholic Church. To this union two children were born, Renee Mary and Kenneth Duane. Following their marriage, they lived in several communities before moving to Algona in 1968. In January of 1979, they moved to Lorimor, where they farmed for many years.
Joanne had many hobbies that she enjoyed. She was a master gardener and was known for her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed quilting blankets for her family, crocheting Afghans for family and friends, and knitting sweaters for her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and baker who enjoyed hosting family. Most of all, Joanne enjoyed the time spent with her family and friends.
Her parents, Louis and Dorothy Weber; husband, Duane Hackett; and one brother, Paul Weber, preceded her in death.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Renee Graaf of Humboldt and Kenneth Hackett of Omaha, Neb., and grandchildren, Christine (Bryan) Redemske and their children, Jack and Madelyn; Sarah (Jeremy) Shields and their daughters, Paige and Emma; Matt (Liz) Graaf and their daughters, Lucy, Carly and Mia; Emily Hackett; and Mary Kate Hackett. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
