Elizabeth “Betty” Jane (Eller) Rochleau was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Algona, the daughter of John and Odell (Hegarty) Eller. She grew up in Algona, the second of eight children. As a young adult, she was employed by Pioneer Seed Research and John Dreesman.

After her marriage to Gerald Rochleau on Feb. 11, 1947, in Algona, Betty became a devoted farm wife. Betty lived on the same farm outside of Algona for her entire married life and continued to live on the farm until she became ill in 2017.

Betty became a widow in 1990. She continued to actively farm until her passing. Betty always kept track of the markets, faithfully read "Iowa Farmer Today," worried about the weather and checked her crops while driving her red and white pickup.

Sharing her time, talents and treasures were her passion. She volunteered weekly at the Kossuth County Food Pantry and was always eager to be a substitute. While volunteering at the Good Samaritan Society, she was named Volunteer of the Year, served on the Care Review Team and was a snack cart volunteer. She volunteered until she became a resident in 2017.

Faith was very important to Betty. She was an active member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church. She enjoyed helping with funeral and parish dinners. She was also a member of the CDA Court #283 and spent many hours in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel.

Betty was a second mother to all her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was always a great support to all of her siblings. She was known as “Aunt Betty” to many members of the community.

Betty died July 28, 2019.

She is survived by her sister, Elise (Clarence) Casey; and sisters-in-law, Doris (Merrill) Mueller and Doris (Marvin) Rochleau; along with many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Lewis, John Jr., Dennis and Earl; and two sisters, Juanita and Patricia.
