Edward Kenneth Gentry, son of Homer and Anna (Schabacker) Gentry was born Nov. 5, 1936, in Havelock. He attended school in Havelock. Edward entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. While there, he met his future wife, Shirley.
On Sept. 28, 1957, Edward married Shirley Evelyn O’Haver in Rolla, Mo. He and Shirley were blessed with four children.
The couple moved to Manson, where Ed worked on a cattle farm. In 1959, they moved to their farm west of West Bend. Ed farmed, and he also worked at the West Bend Creamer, Roupe Furniture and later trucked coast to coast. In 2000, they moved to Emmetsburg.
Ed loved to dance and roller skate (which is how he met Shirley). He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, camping and barbequing for family and friends.
On Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, Ed passed away at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg at the age of 80. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Shirley of Emmetsburg; children: Lori Forry (Paul) of Emmetsburg, Carla Sisler (Paul) of Shingletown, CA, Julie Elbert (Rick) of Algona and Steve Gentry (Kelly) of Plainview, MN; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Richard, Robert (in infancy), Homerdell and Charles.
Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Military rites were conducted by V.F.W. Post 2295. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. Online condolences: joycefuneralhomes.com.
