ALGONA — Delores Mae ‘Dee’ Meyer passed away peacefully, at the age of 82, Sunday morning, Oct. 9, 2016, at the Algona Manor.
A funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, with the Rev. Edward Girres officiating. Visitation was held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and a scripture prayer service at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona. Interment was held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Algona.
Delores Mae “Dee” Meyer was born in Algona, March 20, 1934 to John and Mary (Manthei) Hammer. She grew up in Algona graduating from St. Cecelia Academy in 1952. As a teenager, Dee babysat for Dr. Bray’s children. Dee’s first and only job was with the phone company in Algona - Northwestern Bell/AT&T. She worked at the phone company for 30 years until she retired. Dee had an adventurous spirit as she traveled quite a bit in her 20’s. She enjoyed seeing and experiencing new places.
Dee married Kenny Meyer in May of 1971. She and Kenny enjoyed going fishing and always involving their nieces and nephews in activities. Kenny passed away unexpectedly in March 1992. They owned and ran the Algona Bowling Lanes from 1966 until 1995.
Dee was a dedicated employee, wife, sister, daughter and aunt. She enjoyed the flowers in her garden, their friends/patrons of the bowling alley and spending time with her nieces and nephews and their children. She was always there for the family and enjoyed all the activity that brought. Her Catholic faith was also very important to Dee. She always kept up-to-date with the Algona community news whether it be high school sports, the weather or other happenings.
She is survived by her brother Ed Hammer (Karen), her nieces and nephews; Darald Hammer (Judi), Pam Kohlhaas (Bruce), Pat Read (Bruce), Terry Hammer (Patty), Mike Hammer (Carrie), Doug Hammer (Amy), Todd Hammer (Jennifer), Tom Hammer (Laurie), Craig Hammer (Ericka), Kelly Hammer and Sheila Hammer; brother and sister-in-law, Dean & Marlene Meyer, sister-in-law Doris Meyer and brother-in-law Ronnie Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary, her hsband Kenny, her brother Donnie, her sister-in-law Betty Hammer, her brother-in-law Amos Meyer, and sister-in-law Lavonne Garman.
