Debra Gaedke, age 50 of Des Moines and formerly of Irvington, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at her home. Funeral services were Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona, with the Rev. Eric Hauan officiating. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Irvington.
Debra Rae Gaedke, the daughter of Daryl Gene and Geraldine Ruth (Witham) Gaedke, was born May 29, 1968, in Algona. Deb graduated from Algona High School in 1986 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from the University of Northern Iowa in 1990. Upon graduating, she worked in the Des Moines area as a social worker. She later worked as a claims adjuster for EMC Insurance, where she was employed for the last 20-plus years.
Family meant everything to Deb. She rarely missed a family event no matter how much she had to travel for it. Deb was the best aunt to her nieces and nephews that anybody could ask for. Deb enjoyed traveling especially with her family. Deb was always a cat lover and adored her cats, Max and Maddie. Deb was a very giving person by nature and with her social work background she always wanted to help others including those much less fortunate. Deb worked extra jobs to allow her to give and help people.
Left to cherish Deb’s memory are her mother Geraldine Gaedke of Irvington; siblings Alan (Cindy) Gaedke of Algona and Linda (Jason) Henning of Carrboro, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. Her father and infant sisters, Jean and Joan, preceded her in death.
The Lentz Funeral Home is serving the family. Condolences may be left at www.lentzfuneralhome.com.
