Berniece Looft

Aug. 3, 1939 — April 23, 2018

Berniece Irene Looft was born Aug. 3, 1939, at home in rural East Chain, Minn., the daughter of Noble and Irene (Reed) Overfield. She attended school at East Chain, Minn., until her family bought and relocated to a farm near Scarville. This is where Berniece grew up. She was a member of the Scarville girls basketball team, a sport she loved. She graduated from Scarville High School in 1957, then worked at the local grocery store.

Berniece married ,John Looft on March 15, 1958 at the North Prairie Lutheran Church, in rural Scarville, where she was also baptized and confirmed. Together John and Berniece moved to a farm outside of Ledyard where they raised their two children, Deb and Duane. Berniece was a hard worker. She enjoyed working on the farm side by side with her husband John. She was also willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, always putting others first. Berniece was a long-time member of the local Modernette Book Club and reading was her favorite pastime. She liked card club, sewing, knitting, making afghans, baking, and cooking. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Every Christmas she would bake each grandchild a coffee can full of their own special kind of cookie.
