Benjamin J. Habeger
Benjamin J. Habeger, the son of Ernie and Elizabeth (Ruger) Habeger was born Oct. 12, 1936, in West Bend, where he was raised and received his education, graduating from the West Bend High School in 1954.
He then served in the United States Navy during the Lebanon Crisis of 1958 ona carrier in the Mediterranean. After his time in the service, he attended the University of Nebraska, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Omaha, Neb., for 10 years. Ben farmed in Fall City, Neb., before returning to the West Bend area in 1976, where he continued to farm.
He was united in marriage to Carol Fritz, and to this union the following children were born: Toni (Dan) Voss of Lees Summit, Mo.; Robin (Joe) Greubel of Lucas; Jill (Dustin) Madline of Rochester, Minn.; and Alex Habeger (Lariena Armstrong) of Austin, Texas. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; sisters Juanita Anliker and Rachel Montag and fiancé Marlene Larson. Ben was preceded in death by his parents.
Ben was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He worked for some time at IBM, ISU Extension Service and as a board member at the West Bend Elevator Company. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Algona. He enjoyed dancing, being a part of the Roadrunners Dance Club.
