G-H/Ventura defeats Warriors 10-8

GARNER—North Union made a great comeback but fell two runs short on Tuesday, June 20 in a 10-8 Top of Iowa Conference baseball loss to the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals.

The Cardinals built a 9-0 advantage after five innings of play before the green-black-and-silver got on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the sixth stanza.

Bulldogs earn 4-3 victory over Mason City

MASON CITY—Algona scored the winning run in the top of the sixth inning to earn a solid 4-3 non-conference baseball win on Friday, June 16 over a good Mason City River-hawks squad.

Alex Manske singled in the sixth frame and stole second base. He later scored the winning run when Tate Slagle’s fly ball was dropped in the outfield.

Louscher honored  by colleagues

WATERLOO—Algona’s Christine Louscher was surprised on Wednesday, June 14 when she attended an Iowa Women’s Foundation (IWF) event, held in Waterloo, thinking she was giving tribute to a fellow “50-50 by 2020” colleague Cheryl Erb of Charles City. Christine came to the event ready to extend the tribute to Erb, unaware that she was the recipient of an award as well.

ALGONA—Barb Runneberg, process excellence and quality director at Kossuth Regional Health Center, gave an update on the processes in place for goals for all departments and services during the recent Kossuth Regional Health Center Board of Trustees meeting. She told about the plans for the next fiscal year, putting processes in place how they are going to monitor it and what the plans are to meet the goals.

Wildcats nip Algona 5-3 in NCC softball

HUMBOLDT—Humboldt scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and went onto a 5-3 North Central Conference softball victory on Monday, June 19 over the Algona Bulldogs.

The home team scored first in the contest in the bottom of the first inning on three singles to take an early 2-0 advantage.

Algona tied the game up in the top of the third. Casey VanOtterloo led off the stanza with a single and Tora Solbach was hit-by-a-pitch.

Wolverines rally past G-T/R-A 4-3

RUTHVEN—In a back-and-forth Twin Lakes Conference baseball game on Wednesday, June 14, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines rallied to earn a hard-fought 4-3 decision over the G-R/R-A Titans.

The home team scored first in the contest with a single run in the bottom of the second before the Wolverines pushed across a run in the top of third frame.
