By now you have likely heard that Iowa has a new state logo and slogan. “Freedom to Flourish” is the catchy new phrase, replacing “Fields of Opportunities,” which has been on the 68 welcome signs located on Interstate Highways 80 and 35 since 1999.

Several insurance carriers have stopped writing new homeowners policies in California due to man-made or natural disasters, also known as catastrophic events. In 2022, according to the Insurance Information Institute, insurance carriers estimated natural disaster property losses to be $99 billion. In Iowa, claims for the 2020 derecho topped over $1.6 billion.

Celebrate with Iowa PBS at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES—Visitors to the statewide network Iowa PBS’s exhibit in the Varied Industries Building will see artifacts showcasing the state, such as an American Bison skull or a 4-H uniform dress from 1948, and much more. There will also be some giveaways available for the whole family.

Algona Chapter of DAR honors Veterans

ALGONA—Phil Eischen is being honored posthumously as the 2023 Kossuth County Fair Honoree. Each year a person(s) is chosen to receive the recognition by the Kossuth County Fair Board.

Union Slough auto tour route opens August 1

The auto tour route at Union Slough National Wildlife Refuge has received a fresh coat of gravel and will be open from Tuesday, August 1 through Wednesday, September 20. Visitors are welcome to drive the tour route from sunrise to sunset during those dates.
