Food Pantry drop locations in Burt

Burt Federated Women’s Club is organizing a help end hunger in the community drive for the Algona Food Pantry now through October 13. Burt food drops are located at Classic Stop, Security Bank and city hall. Hearts Unlimited is the club theme for the year.

Funeral services for Patricia Behnkendorf will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona with Rev. Briton Nelson presiding. Burial will be in the Lu Verne Township Cemetery in Lu Verne. Visitation will be held from 9-11  a.m. on Thursday morning at the church.

Caroline A. Shore DeBlauwe Tharp

 

April 19, 1941 - July 25, 2023

 

Caroline’s Spirit joined the Light of Peace on July 25, 2023,  in Waterloo.

Caroline Tharp of Waterloo was born in Algona April 19, 1941, to Glenn Shore and Mertie (Currier) Shore as the youngest of six children.

From Algona High School Class of 1959, she went on to Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls earning her BA, and she later achieved her Master’s degree from UNI in Early Childhood Education.

City Council appoints new Ward 3 council member

 

ALGONA—The Algona City Council appointed Kathy Dearchs to the Third Ward Council position at its meeting on Sept. 5, 2023. Dearchs took her oath of office on Sept. 18 before participating in her first meeting as a council member.

Conrad Joseph Kunkel July 21, 1931 - September 23, 2023

Conrad Joseph Kunkel was the son of Ben and Caroline (Lang) Kunkel and was born July 21, 1931, and was raised on a farm south of St. Benedict. He attended St. Benedict Catholic School through the 11th grade.  In his younger years he was an altar boy for daily Masses. He worked hard on the farm, milking cows, working the fields, failing hay and all the fun things that go along with farming.
