Golden Bears play host to North Union and WB-Mallard

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan hosted both North Union and West Bend-Mallard in non-conference volleyball matches on Monday, Sept. 25 as each team played two matches during the evening.

The first match of the night saw the North Union Warriors defeat the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears by scores of 22-25, 25-21 and 15-11.

Big NCC homecoming win for Algona volleyball squad

ALGONA—Algona picked up a big North Central Conference volleyball victory in four sets over the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The home team won the opening game by the score of 25-17 before the Cadets took the second set by the count of 24-26. The red-and-black won the final two games by the identical scores of 25-20.

Leading the Bulldogs in digs with 20 was Macy Knapp as Casey VanOtterloo had 16 more and Paige Schmitt added 11 digs.

Golden Bears hand North Iowa third loss of season

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan handed North Iowa just their third loss of the 2023 season on Tuesday, Sept. 19 by defeating the Lady Bison in four tight matches.

The home team won the first game by the score of 25-21 before the blue-and-white fought back to win the second set by score of 23-25.

The black-and-gold responded by winning the third game by the score or 25-1 and ended the match with a 25-16 triumph in the fourth set.

West Bend-Mallard spikers fall to Mustangs

NEWELL—Newell-Fonda defeated the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines in three straight sets in a Twin Lakes Conference contest played on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The Mustangs won the opening game by the score of 25-15 before taking the second set by the count of 25-19 and ended the match with a 25-15 triumph in game number three.

Swim team earns three wins at Fort Dodge meet

FORT DODGE—Winning three different events highlighted the performances of the Algona swim team at a triangular held on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The red-and-black finished in third place with a team score of 38 points as Fort Dodge won the meet with team total of 67 and Perry took second with 59 points.

Freshman Ella Welp was a double winner for the Bulldogs as she won the 50-yard freestyle race in 26.40 and took the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 59.78.
