Taylor places 8th at Bobcat Dive Meet

MARSHALLTOWN—Reese Taylor of the Algona swim team traveled to Marshalltown on Saturday, Oct. 14 to compete against 29 other divers in the “Bobcat Dive Meet” held at the Marshalltown YMCA.

Taylor scored a total of 369.00 points on her dives during the day to finish in eighth place out of the 30 young ladies competing on Saturday.

Final touches being made for Autumnfest Craft and Vendor Show

ALGONA—Mollie Schimmelpfennig of Titonka will be among the more than 100 vendors at the 31st Annual Algona Autumnfest Craft and Vendor Show on Saturday, October 28.

The 2023 craft and vendor show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Algona High School Commons and Gym and at the Algona Middle School Commons. The fall event is sponsored by the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce.

Meurer shares his talent & knowledge

Bruce Meurer had his wood carvings of Eastern Woodland Indians on display during a one day exhibit last Thursday, Oct. 12.  He also displayed Indigenous paintings and artifacts he has collected or crafted. All of the items were hand crafted.

Meurer, an expert on indigenous people,  also gave a lecture to three different classes from Algona High school that visited that morning.

Groundbreaking at fairgrounds

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Iowa Hall of Fame Racing Museum building being built at The Kossuth County Fairgrounds last Friday, October 13 during the Algona Chamber coffee. Construction is set to begin this month in hopes of opening the new museum in early 2024. The current museum is in Otho.
